Rodney Droud was born to be a Sprint Car Driver. It was kind of hard not to be. His dad and his brother have had auspicious careers on Midwest Speedway's historic layout. Rodney, though, decided he wasn't ready (and rightly so) to begin a Sprint Car career until he graduated college. Ripened and ready he bought his father's 1984 championship Kain from Pete Leikam and embarked on a Dirt Track odyssey. 1987 was a great year for Droud. His Sprint Car past was blank, but his future was to be preeminent. It took him till his first July to score his first victory of any kind. It was a Heat, he'd have another before the season was out. Droud never looked back and became one of the most recognizable Open Wheel stars of Nebraska.
